(1) “odpowiedz…please respond”: An international collaborative public cultural project involving an anthropologist, a graphic designer, and a sound artist

Erica Lehrer, Hannah Smotrich, and Stephanie Rowden worked together to create a temporary space of dialogue around the conflict-ridden theme of Jewish heritage in Poland at a cultural festival in the Polish city of Krakow. The three collaborators will give an informal audio-visual presentation about the history, challenges, and goals of their project (conceptual, technical, collaborative).

(2) Graphic Design for Public Cultural Work: A participatory workshop with Hannah Smotrich, University of Michigan School of Art & Design

After an introduction to her background as a designer and a short visual presentation of some of professor Smotrich’s graphic design work on the DC Neighborhood Heritage Trails project and the exhibit “Weaving a World: Lewiston’s Millworkers, 1920-2008”, she will talk about visualizing voice and engaging a community in the representation of their collective story, and conclude with some technical issues regarding how to sequence language, emphasize key aspects, employ coexisting texts, etc.
