THREE-STORIES: A day of Story-telling, Story-sharing and Story-making Workshops

Monday May 16th, 2011 10:30-4:30pm

In conjunction with the presentation of Intersection 4: International Day for Sharing Life Stories and the CEREV Workshop (LB 671.7 CEREV WORKSHOP)

On behalf of the Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling (COHDS) and the Centre for Ethnographic Research and Exhibition in the Aftermath of Violence (CEREV) – and in honour of May 16th the International Day For Sharing Life Stories –we invite artist/performer researchers of all mediums to submit proposals to participate in a one day workshop about art and storytelling in the 21st century.

The theme for the day will build on the idea of ‘three-stories’, where each level (story-telling, story-sharing and story-making) builds on the next. We will be exploring the intersection between the story, the artist’s personal connection to the story and the manner in which an art piece can embody that relationship.

Please submit proposals to stories@alcor.concordia.ca by Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011.

This event will be an opportunity for a small group of selected artists to workshop art works currently in production with an experienced facilitator working at the intersection between art and storytelling. The workshop will entail some hands on training in multimedia production with an aim to explore methods of exhibition that extend the boundaries of existing practices in showing stories.

Submissions should include the following:

•       Artist statement (max 150 words)
•       Artist bio and/or CV
•       Project description including a short description of the story that your piece encapsulates and a very short argument for why you would like to participate in this workshop (max 400 words).
•       List of technical requirements.
•       Maximum of 10 jpeg images or 3 video excerpts (QuickTime compatible) that document the project you are proposing to workshop or similar previous work.

Deadline for submission: Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011.

Space will be limited.  Selection will be based on the strength of the piece’s adherence to the theme, the inter-compatibility of available pieces and the artists expressed desire to take their work somewhere in a collaborative manner.
